New 3 Day Location- Where to go and where to avoid!

Where to go!

I found a new place that they should hold the 3 day. In the town and surrounding towns of Oneida, NY. It was beautiful, there was a ton to look at, and best of all.... it was flat! The weather was perfect and Phil was able to show me around his entire hometown... on foot!

Where To Avoid!

Yesterday, my mom and I were halfway down the street when it started to rain. We realized it was going to end up in a downpour and turned around. We changed our training days to Tues, Wed, Thurs this week. So today, we chose a new spot, mainly because we were sick of staring at the same houses and roads everyday. We parked at the tennis courts and set out to walk. The weather was nice, it was sprinkling a little but not enough to stop walking. We were about 2.5 miles in when we walked past where the car was parked to venture out into the rest of the neighborhood. Mom happened to glance over at a group of people staring at her car and then realized there was a large hole. I guess we will go back to our old roads and houses again, boredom is better than this! :-)
* Luckily the person was in such a rush they stole a beach bag that contained nothing of value.

Small Vent

So to give you a little background information, (Sorry Phil), Phil and I were out training one night, or more like I was training he was keeping me company. We ended up in a debate about women waiting until they were 40 to get mammograms. He was making good points looking at it from a money standpoint and everything else that is logical, where I was looking at it from what I call a *girl* standpoint. Mine was all emotions. When Phil would say, is it worth it to have 5,000 women tested every single year for 10 years and waste all that money when they may only miss 1 or 2 women in the entire bunch? My response? What if that one was me.

So tonight, since I have a break from school, I spent some time googling for fun (which was a nice change!) And I came across many articles that now are stated that women do not need to get mammograms until they are 50 years old. FIFTY! I think out of all the women I know, my grandmother may be the only one that developed breast cancer AFTER the age of fifty. I read through some interviews from doctors, and it looks like they are not agreeing with this either. They said they would continue to have their patients get yearly mammograms, that breast cancer is the most common cancer and second cause of death from cancer.

The reason for the U.S. Preventative Task Force to choose the age of 50 and then every other year after that is due to false positives. Which causes stress in women. I'm sorry but I would rather be stressed for a week or two until they do another test than to not be tested at all.

Okay small vent over. Time for bed. Sweet dreams all!! :-)

Hottest Week Ever.

I was unaware until last week that North Carolina was located next to the SUN! It was so hot. It was honestly the first week between this year and last year that I quit walking mid-way, deciding I was going to pass out, and called for a ride. Granted in July of last year it reached over 100 degrees, but training up to that made a big difference. It was so hot, we were both covered in sunscreen and after 4 miles I had already started to burn. Great picture huh? This was the picture I sent to Phil with a plea to ask him to pick us up off the street.

We only made it about 4.5 miles and didn't try again the next day. So tomorrow we will start the week again with our three days. We are a week behind, but I think it was worth it not to be out in the heat.

In other news, The Cook-Off is on for June 26th, I tried to make sure I covered everyone in the invitation via evite however, some people i do not have e-mail addresses for, so please send me your e-mail if you want to come to this event, friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/spouses are all welcome.

There are 3 guys cooking off against each other, each preparing 3 courses. The cost is $10 a head (anyone under 5 is free) and ALL of the proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Walk! We are hoping to have as many people as we can that are interested, so please e-mail me for all the info!
